Tyre Nichols’ killing has led to the murder charges and incarceration of 5 former Memphis police officers.

Tyre Nichols, who died a few days after a traffic encounter on January 7, was beaten to death by five former Memphis police officers, and they have all been charged and sent in jail.

Numerous accusations, including second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct, and official oppression, are brought against Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Justin Smith.

All of the fired policemen are Black, like Nichols.

Cerelyn Davis, the chief of the Memphis Police Department, spoke in a video message on Wednesday about “the horrible circumstances” surrounding Nichols’ passing. The act was “heinous, dangerous, and brutal,” she claimed, calling it a professional failure.

Prosecutors revealed additional information about what took place during the traffic stop on January 7 during a news conference where they also announced the indictments of the five cops.

While each of the five policemen had a separate responsibility, Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy told reporters that “the conduct of all of them led in the murder of Tyre Nichols and they are all culpable.”
